Hi guys it's Rowan, I can't log in from work. Just wanted to let you know I got a friend's teasing PM at JCF notifying me that it's "game over" for Reylo because SW Rebels confirmed FinnRey. Apparently Kanan (jedi) told Hera (non jedi) "We will see each other again, I promise" My reaction is MEH. But still fyi. That is just dumb and I don't know how it relates. They are GRASPING AT STRAWS

Maybe we could index the old JCF Reylo thread (so we don't lose everything we've analysed since TFA's release) and start again in a place we could call "our own"? A place where we could keep our work safe? That's what came to my mind... I don't see myself contributing again to the 2.0 thread (as said before, enthusiasm = 0) and the idea of a Fan club on JCF doesn't really appeal to me :/ I would like help with this, because I enjoy rereading some of the good old posts Every person who wrote some detailed analysis/metas could send them to me in PM (on JCF) and I could index them in the "Metas and Essays" section of the new forum? | It's just a suggestion, I'd like to hear your opinion on it guys!

The word 'friend'?

Hi everyone,
Joining the bitter club :-)
Actually, I had time to cool off a bit. I agree with Anne Neville that it might be better to not start putting out names. You know, unless something really terrible happened (like real life stuff), you might one day regret what you posted on a public forum. I don't want to sound like I am lecturing, but in my professional life I did write some e-mails (they are not public, but still can be forwarded to other people) and realized afterwards that I should have thought it through, but once it's out there, it's out of your control.
I honestly think that the last rounds of posts against the mods were a bit much and as a mod, I would have gotten pissed off too. But there were bad calls being made too from their side. And I only saw yesterday that some mods post their opinions in the Redemption thread and I was quite shocked by this. In my book you are either a mod or a poster. Can't work both sides. That annoyed me more than the thread getting locked. Still, I don't want to hold a grudge against them. Some might just have a bad day or time. Nobody's perfect. I'll wait and see how it continues. Some ground rules are needed and maybe if we keep our cool, it will be better and go smoothly. And if the conspiracy theory is true, we need to stay there ;-)
I will probably stay in the JC forum and just take a look here once in a while. I cannot handle 2 forums. I have certain decisions to take in real life and finding ways to avoid it is not going to help in the long run. But then Kylo Ren and his redemption is nearly a personal topic for me so I won't help coming back to whatever forum discusses it in a non-judgmental way.
Speaking of Kylo, Brian Kesinger really loves lil'Kylo. I do not know how many Calvin & Hobbes style cartoons he made, but I think most of them are lil'Kylo related. You can really see that Kylo is the important character right now, bearing the legacy of OT. The latest cartoon is funny -> lil'kylo going through Leia's closet. I don't know how to include a picture so here is the link:
EDIT: oh wow, the picture actually shows. I thought only the link would show.

Actually, I was on the forum for the pre TFA speculation, and there were a lot of women. I'd guess half and half, but perhaps it was mu own bias and the threads I stuck to. Hi, guys! That's exactly what is happening. SW's fandoms, like so many other fandoms on the Internet, used to be a sort of haven for the ultimate geeky dudebros, so when other sorts of fans started swarming their sanctuary, they got annoyed first, and then really pissed. Not all guys are like that, thanks God, but there are far too many in fandom. In other fandoms they treated female fans exactly the same way or even worse. They also ridicule Tumblr saying it is just for crazy fangirls. But they are wrong, there's a bit of everything on Tumlbr, including very insightful meta. And anyway, what happens if people want to fangirl? The are entitled to doing whatever they want, as long as they respect others. These guys don't want to educate us, they just want to drive us out, or disperse us, so that our voices get diluted in other threads. As someone has said some posts before, guys may like whatever they like, anything, whereas those girls who like Twilight or 50 Shades of Grey are demonized, or worse, looked down on or made fun of. Well, I haven't read 50 Shades or have seen or read Twilight myself. They are not my cup of tea and I think they are poor quality, forgive me if any of you are fans, but this is how I see them. However, I would never shame anyone or make fun of anyone who likes them. Who am I to tell anybody what they should like? And what about this moralistic nonsense telling us what kind of male fictional characters we should like? What's that? That's paternalistic and disrespectful. I don't need any guy telling me what's better for me, thank you very much. And I can distinguish fiction from reality perfectly well, as all of us here and there on the thread. In the old days, when women weren't even allowed to vote, it was believed that women shouldn't read too much because their minds were weak and couldn't tell the difference between fiction and reality. Well, it seems we haven't advanced enough in this respect. The central idea is always the same, control, trying to control women. And controlling our imaginations is the ultimate goal. So, girls, you have to choose a NICE guy, which means one dudebros can identify with, because if you choose a different type of guy,and in this case a really sexy one, you can be sure he must be bad for you. Sexy guys are all bad, it is known! While a nice guy you don't feel attracted too is exactly what you need, yeah! That's the receipt for a happy life together, choose someone you have 0 chemistry with. And who is nice? A guy has to decide for you, because they know better. In this case it's clear Kylo is most dangerous, he is bad news, I agree, but we expect him to come back to the right path, that's why we ship Reylo. This has nothing to do with RL and we are not thinking of sending letters to criminals in jail. And whatever we decide, it is our live and our imagination, not theirs. But they won't let us have the party in peace. THIS. Exactly this. Thank you! Was just talking with my bestie about this yesterday in fact. Going to start with this disclaimer: In no way do I think this represents the entire male nerd/geek subculture! But once upon a time I was with a self-proclaimed Nerdy Nice Guy and I can back every bit of this. There's this insidious pocket of male nerds with a mentality that dictates they believe several things: 1. They have the best taste in all things geeky/nerdy and certainly better taste than those assholes from high school who used to kick their asses and/or got all the hot girls they couldn't have, 2. Women also have naturally bad taste, can't be funny or logical, and need help being introduced into fandom and holding the "right" views, 3. As you already state, women need to be guided toward which men they should actually sleep with, and it's always the boring, "nice" guy who represents them, not the "bad guy" who represents the guy they hated in high school. What they ironically fail to recognize is they are just as bad if not worse than the "bad guys" they think steal the women they feel entitled to. So gross. Here's something else I mentioned to my BF yesterday that I actually find hilarious - all these dudes calling Adam Driver ugly. Now granted he's not conventionally attractive, but he has that certain je nais se qua that makes him super sexy. I instantly had a crush on Daisy Ridley and her adorable pixie face whereas I found Adam intriguing when he removed his mask but it took some time for me to go, oh damn, he is sexy and definitely looks like he'd be naughty in bed . Anyway, these dudebros going "nah, that guy is ugly." Um, jealous much? Lol. And what big talk from behind your internet avatar...

I saw the movie again yesterday and Maz told Finn to find his friend (Rey)and give him the lightsabre when Finn was about to live but the FO arrived and attacked Takodana. At the end of the movie, Rey says good by to Finn with a kiss on his forehead and, in my opinion they are telling the audience very clearly what kind of relationship Finn and Rey have. Many will say this means nothing but I don't agree. Both Maz and Rey could have used his name instead of calling him "friend", so I think this decision is a message from the writers. Maz also told Rey the belonging she seeks is ahead, she runs into the woods and Kylo finds her there. There she finds the belonging she seeks, but she doesn't know yet. And I EU has to be taken as an indication, they better check on Revan and Bastila. Revan even had shoulder-length dark hair, like Kylo and used a mask he didn't need just like him. Bastilla was a jedi and fought with a weapon that looked like a staff. Revan became Dark because of reasons that weren't evil. Well, they have a lot in common.

Here's a notion I kept seeing pop up in that theforce.net thread that I find irritating: Rey can't have a romance with the bad guy because *gasp* think of the children! *Gasp* What will I tell my daughter who is looking up to her? So two points here: A. There are many examples of male heroes who have sexual/romantic subplot with female villains in comics and there is not a complaint when this gender dynamic is in play. B. I have a daughter. You know what I'm going to tell her? In real life honey, bad boys are for fun only. There, problem solved.

I think the problem is elsewhere, the problem is that too many guys feel that they have to educate us, poor women, because we don't know what is good for us. As you say, nobody complains if a male character gets involved with a female villain in a movie, but a heroine getting involved with the anti-villain (I believe he is an anti-villain) is dangerous because girls are dumb and should be told what to do. This is dangerous and not shipping Reylo.
