Since the possibility of Rey Skywalker is a main reason why a large group of people have missed or haven't thought of the possibility of Reylo I thought I should create a thread about why Rey being a Skywalker is hugely problematic and doesn't make sense narratively.
We can also discuss who Rey truly is and what role could her parentage play in the overall story of the trilogy.Collin Treverrow did say that Rey is a very important character to the Galaxy so I imagine her parentage will be very important.

Like I wrote before; the fact we won't know her lineage until episode IX and she met Luke at VII'S end already proves she's not Lukes. Unless you believe the finnrey crowd who think he will lie to her or brush off her questions until the end of the last movie in the trilogy.

Honestly the hardest thing about Rey Skywalker for me to understand is that the people advocating for it seem to worship Luke as hero of the OT. How do they then explain that he either abandoned his kid or somehow didn't even know she existed? It would be something that would change Luke's character forever, and in what I'd consider a negative way. I think she could be descended from the dark side, that would fit the yin yang theory well.

I really like the point that you made in the original Reylo thread (it was you, right??) that keeping Rey's parentage ambiguous is also important because it protects Kylo Ren's story arc in a sense. If people know for sure that Rey is NOT a Skywalker, then the likelihood of Kylo Ren being redeemed and being a protagonist (possibly a romantic one) in the future installments increases dramatically because he would be the last Skywalker. Even ultra-dense viewers would make that connection, hence a lot of the future directions in the trilogy could be guessed at more readily than they are now.

I think I did say it,I can't remember right now but yes I think keeping it ambiguous whether Rey's a Skywalker keeps Reylo happening as a surprise since people have Rey Skywalker googles when they watch Reylo scenes and they miss all the subtext and foreshadowing.Removing that ambiguity makes it more clear where Reylo is headed. For the life of me though I can't understand why almost every sing scenario about Rey Skywalker is about Rey killing Kylo.I find the we have a good Skywalker now we can get rid if the bad one type of thinking really troubling not to mention the lack of respect to Leia and her legacy.I can't tell, you how many times I've read how n Leia and Kylo are Organs/Solos and Skywalkers.I'm like excuse me?!I find it as insulting as the lightsaber choosing Rey because she's Luke's kid like Luke is somewhat better than Leia. It's kind of interesting how many people jumped to the conclusion that the lightsaber calling to Rey meant she was a Skywalker. How much do you want to bet people would take it as proof if Maz hadn't said the lightsaber was Luke and his father's. Now I kind of wish they had kept that scene from the trailers where Maz gives Leia her father's lightsaber. It would have been a nice reminder that Leia is as much Skywalker and Anakin's child as Luke us.I don't know why they somewhat see her as the inferior Skywalker, maybe it's because the OT focused on Vader and Luke's relationship but Vader's last thought was of his daughter which I think is also overlooked.
